I’ve been doing a load of research for my PhD recently, mainly reading up about identity theory in Sociology. I’ve really got into consumer culture recently – and experienced renewed enjoyment from watching Fight Club and The Matrix as a result!

Stuff I’ve been reading:
:: Subverting the Mechanisms of Control: Baudrillard, The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded
:: The Consumer Society by Baudrillard
:: Baudrillard: A Critical Reader by Kellner
:: Consumer Culture and Postmodernism by Featherstone
:: Designing Pleasurable Products by Jordan

It’s been a while
I’ve not posted anything for a while which I’ve become increasingly aware of. I didn’t really want this to be something where I post things simply because I haven’t posted for a while, but here we are. I think the final push came from Tom Coates and his ten commandments of weblogging (in particular commandment number 9).

So what have I been doing? I’ve been busying writing a report for my PhD about the presence and use of identity in social software. It’s not due for a while, but I’m submitting a draft on Wednesday to my supervisor.

In other news, I’ve had my abstract accepted for the COST269 conference, the Good, the Bad and the Irrelevant which means I may be hotfooting it over to Helsinki later this summer!
